A Note from the Audition Committee Chair
Dear PATA Participants, Volunteers and Board Members and the IFCC:
As you know, a lot of planning goes into the PATA City-wide Auditions. Thank you to everyone to helped for making this event
a success. The PATA Audition Committee learns a lot with each audition cycle, so there will be changes coming in January.
The one I want all actors to be aware of is the time limit. THIS WILL CHANGE FOR JANUARY 2010.
Time limits:
- AEA members/candidates will have 3 minutes, non-AEA members will have 2 minutes.
- All timing begins at the first word of your monologue or song.
We wanted to give you a heads up as you all start planning, as we are, for the January 2010 PATA City-wide Auditions which will be
held at Artists Repertory Theatre on January 15, 16, and 18. 2010. Remember there will be a Dance Audition as well.
There will be a few other changes as to help the audition process continue to run smoothly, such as an audition handbook,
and we will keep you apprised of them in a timely manner.
Please contact me if you would like to offer you theatre space for the June 2010 and June 2011 Auditions. We want to spread
the benefits of hosting the PATA Auditions.
Again, many thanks to all of you for a job well done.
Sincerely,
Michael Mendelson
PATA Audition Committee Chair
Please join us for our next round in January, 2010.
ABOUT MONOLOGUE AUDITIONS
Actors have a total of three (3) minutes for their audition, not including their introduction. We strongly recommend you perform two
contrasting monologues for the audition. Your monologues MUST be memorized. No reading will be allowed. You may not use costumes or
props of any kind. However, we will provide a chair if you require one.
ABOUT MUSICAL AUDITIONS
Singers have a total of three (3) minutes for their musical audition, not including their introduction. It is strongly recommended
that singers perform two contrasting songs, approximately 32 bars each. A monologue is optional, but remember that you must do your
entire audition in three minutes. An accompanist will be provided during the musical auditions. Please bring sheet music in the
appropriate key, with your start and stop points clearly marked. We suggest that you photocopy and tape your music together so that
it all lays flat for the accompanist. If you prefer to bring your own accompanist, you may. However, you may not sing a cappella and
you may not accompany yourself. Your audition MUST be memorized. No recorded music will be allowed.
Some hints from one of our accompanists.
ABOUT TIME
The three-minute time limit is STRICTLY ENFORCED. The timekeeper will call "Time" at the three-minute mark. If that happens,
DO NOT CONTINUE. Instead, simply stop where you are, say "Thank you," and exit.
Please note that beginning with our January 2010 auditions, monologue and musical auditions
will have a two-minute time limit.
ABOUT MEMORIZATION
Your audition must be memorized. Scripts or "cheat sheets" will not be allowed. If your audition is not memorized, the timer will
ask you to stop. If that happens,
DO NOT CONTINUE. Instead, simply stop where you are, say "Thank you," and exit.
ABOUT HEADSHOTS AND RESUMES
PATA compiles and prints headshots and resumes for each auditor. Each applicant will submit only one copy of each document,
and will be required to pay a $5 materials fee for each audition scheduled to cover the cost of the printing.
You MUST provide PATA with a headshot and resumes either online, mailed, or hand delivered to our office by the materials deadline.
Failure to provide your headshot and resume on time will result in your audition being canceled.
If you are submitting paper copies, PATA prefers that you provide a first-generation print.
No Polaroids or inappropriately sized photos will be accepted.
ABOUT CALLBACKS
The City-Wide Auditions are general auditions, designed to provide an opportunity for exposure of performers to area directors and
producers. Callbacks are at the discretion of each attending producing organization. PATA is not a producing organization, and
will not hold any callback auditions.
